Die Festung Bukhansanseong wurde im Jahre 132 während der Baekje-Zeit errichtet. In der Umgebung des Flusses Hantangang finden sich aus vulkanischer Aktivität hervorgegangene Basaltsteine, die aufgrund ihrer kleinen Löcher gombodol (wortwörtlich „Pockensteine) genannt werden. Diese Löcher entstehen, wenn sich Lavaklumpen zu Basalt abkühlen und dann Luftblasen bilden, die später im kalten Stein zerplatzen und Löcher hinterlassen.
Die Natur um den Fluss ist so schön, dass er sich schon früh einen Namen als Erholungsgebiet gemacht hat. Der Fluss, der in der Nähe von Pyeonggang in Nordkorea entspringt, fließt durch die Regionen Cheorwon, Pocheon und Yeoncheon mündet in den Fluss Imjingang, und gewährt mit seinem rauen Flussgang und den Steilhängen mit seltenen Felsformation einen wunderschönen Anblick.

          Wenn man etwa zehn Kilometer in Richtung der Insel Namiseom am See des Cheongpyeong-Damms entlang fährt, wird man am Hügel zur Linken eine kleine Siedlung aus weißen und pastellfarbenen Häusern vorfinden, die einem Dorf an der mediterranen Küste zum Verwechseln ähnlich. Petite France dient sowohl als französisches Kulturdorf als auch als Bildungseinrichtung für Jugendliche und besteht aus 16 Gebäuden, in denen Besucher übernachten und mehr über die französische Küche, Kleidung und Hauskultur lernen können.
